Solicitors for the Elderly
Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE) is a national organisation of lawyers, such as solicitors, barristers, and legal executives who are committed to providing and promoting robust, comprehensive and independent legal advice for older and vulnerable people, their family and carers.
The key objectives are:
- To develop expertise in areas of public and private law relevant to older vulnerable adults, their families' and carers' needs and concerns. These include but are not limited to:
- Consent, capacity and substituted decision-making
- Financial planning, including the funding of retirement and long-term care
- Housing
- Social care issues
- Dealing with abuse
- To continue to exercise the expertise which members of this organisation have in the more traditional legal services which older and vulnerable adults require, e.g. wills, probate & trusts, tax planning, court of protection, powers of attorney, and property matters
- To establish, promote and strive to maintain best practice
- To facilitate networking of its members and the building of constructive relationships with key statutory and voluntary bodies and agencies, charities, housing, health and social care providers, the financial services sector and other related organisations or individuals
- To do all such things as shall be conducive to the attainment of the above objectives
- To be proactive and visible on areas of public policy and issues affecting members of this organisation and their clients
